Airbus Workers in Spain Launch Strike Over Working Conditions

Airbus employees in Spain have launched a strike scheduled to continue until the end of July, citing what unions describe as deteriorating working conditions.
The action began at Airbus’ Getafe facility near Madrid and has extended to other company sites across the country. The Independent Union of Aviation Professionals, SIPA, said workers are protesting pay increases below inflation, stricter attendance monitoring and policies requiring office-based employees to spend more time on site.
Concerns over reduced remote-working arrangements and changes to employee benefits have also been cited among the reasons for the industrial action.
Spain’s largest Airbus union, CCOO, has not joined the current strike. However, it warned that unless demands are addressed, workers could begin an open-ended strike from September 7, potentially affecting Airbus’ delivery schedule during the final months of the year.
Airbus employs more than 14,000 people across eight sites in Spain, producing military transport aircraft as well as components for commercial aircraft and satellites. The strike comes as the manufacturer works toward its 2026 target of delivering 870 aircraft amid continued supply-chain constraints.
